But past the numbers, Leguizamo told Business Insider that "Encanto" was so remarkable because of the specificity of its story.

On Wednesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the untitled Disney Animation film slated for Thanksgiving is a sequel to the beloved 2016 film "Moana." Disney's animation studios — Walt Disney Animation and Pixar — have struggled at the box office in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The decision trained parents to seek out new Disney titles on streaming, not theaters, even when Disney opted to return its films to the big screen. As a result, no Disney animated feature from Pixar or Walt Disney Animation has generated more than $480 million at the global box office since 2019. A sequel to "Moana" will arrive about six months after the theatrical release of "Inside Out 2," a sequel to the hit 2015 animated film about what really goes on inside a person's head.

Neither of the weekend’s top new releases — “Wish” and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” — could keep up with Lionsgate's “Hunger Games” prequel. On the basis of its half-thought-out script, Hollywood writers’ fears of being supplanted by artificial intelligence appear well-founded. This movie seems proud, even smug, about recycling scraps from other fairy tales. Beginning with “Once upon a time” and closing (spoiler alert) with “and they all lived happily ever after,” “Wish” self-consciously throws the raw stuff of fairy tales—a kingdom, a secret, friendly animal companions, wishes, cute magic and dark sorcery—into a blender in hopes of making a delightful new concoction. What comes out has as much flavor as a glass of water.

CNN —Disney is adding a sixth ship to its growing cruise line, the entertainment giant announced late Tuesday morning in a video presentation. It will leave Port Canaveral, Florida, for a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise, Disney said in a news release. Bookings for Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members start September 12 this year. Then, DeSantis lobs an incendiary accusation: Disney, by opposing the schools bill, was promoting the "sexualization of children."
